Filipinos advised: Hand wash with soap frequently to prevent measles

Filipinos are urged to be vigilant in protecting themselves against measles, following the Department of Health’s declaration of a measles outbreak in  the National Capital Region, other areas of Luzon, and Central Eastern Visayas .
Data from the DOH Epidemiology Bureau showed over 800 measles cases in Metro Manila in the first month of the year. The number of measles cases in the country has been on an uptrend, with 3,646 cases recorder in 2018 compared to just 351 in 2017 – a ten-fold increase.
Measles is a highly contagious but preventable disease that is transferred from one person to another through sneezing, coughing, and personal contact. Its symptoms include coughing, a runny nose, red eyes, fever, diarrhea, and a distinctive red rash that spreads all over the body. Its complications, which can be fatal, include ear infections, blindness, swelling of the brain, and pneumonia. In fact, measles is one of the top causes of death among children below the age of 5.
Because of the seriousness of the disease, individuals should proactively take steps to protect themselves against it. Apart from vaccination, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) recommends:
● Frequent handwashing
● Not touching the eyes, nose, and mouth
● Covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing
● Avoiding close contact and sharing utensils with people who are sick
Hand washing can play a major role in helping prevent the transmission of the measles virus. According to the Global Handwashing Partnership, “Hand washing protection works by removing the tiny droplets containing the measles virus from your hands before they get a chance to infect you or transfer to someone else”.
Hand washing with a trusted soap like Safeguard is able to remove 99.9% of germs. Make sure that as you lather, you thoroughly scrub and cover all parts of the hand with soap. Then rinse your hands with water. With regular hand washing with soap, Safeguard is a cost-effective and easy measure to help prevent the spread of the disease.By taking a proactive and vigilant stance through vaccination, hand washing, and the tips above, the battle against measles can be won. If your child or family members are showing these symptoms, it is also recommended to visit your nearest health center or family doctor.

Downy Sports 24 Hour All-Star Freshness Challenge

Feeling stinky when you perspire? Dont sweat it! Nico Bolzico and Alex Gonzaga puts New Downy Sports to an Extreme Freshness Challenges.

Manila, Philippines - February 2019 - More and more Filipinos are living an active lifestyle, and getting into various sports and outdoor activities. The Philippines being tropical and humid in nature -  it is very challenging to remain smelling fresh all day. Some even shy away from extreme physical activity because of fears that they won't smell good from all the sweating.

But don't sweat it! Downy, the world's best-selling fabric enhancer, recently launched the New Downy Sports - the first and only fabric enhancer in the world with 24-hour odor protection technology for your clothes. It is designed to provide active individuals engaged in extreme physical activities the confidence of a long-lasting refreshing scent even on sweaty days.

Proving that smelling fresh and feeling great can be possible despite prolonged physical activities, Downy Sports recently held the 24-Hour All-Star Freshness Challenge, an afternoon of intense basketball games pitting celebrity-led teams headed by actress and vlogger Alex Gonzaga, as well
as soccer player and fitness enthusiast Nico Bolzico.

In one intense afternoon, members of Team Alex and Team Nico gathered at the Kerry Sports Plaza over at Shangri-la at The Fort to test each others basketball wits and sweat in the court. Making up Team Alex were Thirdy Ravena, Michele Gumabao, and Maricel Laxa - Pangilinan. Team Nico, on the other hand, had Kianna Dy, Joanne Villablanca, and Anton Del Rosarion. Each all-star team was coached by professional basketball stars including LA Tenorio, JC Intal, Asi Taulava, Jeff Chan, Marc Pingris, and Robert Bolick.

Members of each team wore jerseys rinsed with Downy Sports, whose innovative malodor-removing technology is activated by friction. Rubbing the clothes releases perfume bubbles that keep the fabrics smelling fresh all day long.

After hours of intense action, including lay-up matches, a dribbling obstacle course, and a basketball game, the players hung their jerseys in an all-star freshness gallery. The players were astounded that despite the tremendous amount of sweat accumulated from the afternoon of intense action, the jerseys smelle amazingly fresh.

"This is just awesome. My jersey still smells great even if its drenched in sweat. And the best thing is that i feel fresh. Considering my lifestyle, I'll definitely make sure that my clothes are washes with Downy Sports so that l'll always smell fresh. Definitely, wifezilla-approved!" said Nico Bolzico.

Alex agreed. "I can't believe that my jersey still smells good even after those sweaty games. Downy Sports is really a refreshing discovery, and now I know I'll get to stay fresh all day - whether it's for sports or for the everyday hustle with tapings, vlogging, events, and shopping!"

Downy Sports extreme malodor protectoon is expected to benefit millions of Filipinos who want to continue living an active lifestyle with the confidence of having 24-hour odor protection, even through sweat!

"The Philippines is a tropical country with high humidity so people tend to sweat a lot, especially when they engage in physical activities and sports. Many complain of the stench in their clothes whenever they sweat. We are confident that with the New Downy Sports 24-hour deodorant protection, Filipinos will be assured that they will smell and feel fresh even
in extreme sweaty situations in their daily routine," said Cedric Le Goff, Country Category Leader for  Downy Philippines.

Nestle Nankid Reshape The Future

Nestlé NANKID executives, along with parents, moderators, and speakers unite to
#ReshapeTheFuture by fostering an Optimal Growth Mindset.

Failure is life’s greatest teacher but few parents want their children to experience its pains.  In today’s increasingly complex world, raising children can be a challenge for parents, most of who would not want to see their children experience difficulties.

Massive technological changes, changing worldviews, and constant disruptions have made the world much more complex, but these have also created ample opportunities for learning and growth.  Amidst uncertainties and continuous change, parents have to ensure that their children learn and grow from the challenges that they will inevitably encounter in their growing-up years. By developing an optimal growth mindset and adapting an optimal diet and lifestyle, parents can help set their kids up for the future.

Recognizing that parents need support in reshaping the future of their children, Nestlé NANKID utilizes expertise with advocacy, to help reshape the future for the next generation, with Parentology+.

Achieving an optimal growth mindset begins with optimal nutrition. And this year, Nestlé NANKID is giving parents the opportunity to be able to foster a holistic and continual growth of a child in all aspects—emotional, nutritional, physical, psychological, and social development, through Parentology+: The Reshape Effect Forum

The forum, held last January 15 at Whitespace Makati, aimed to help parents better understand their role in reshaping the future of their children. Hosted by the Philippines’ premier talk show host, Boy Abunda, the event was joined by well-known parenting experts from the international and local scenes.

Among them were Melissa Benaroya, LICSW, a renowned parent, coach, and speaker from Costa Rica whose extensively studied the Growth Mindset movement. In addition, Melissa aims to be able to share unique strategies on raising children; Didi Manahan, MSEd, a progressive learning advocate and co-founder of Keys School Manila, where she serves as head directress, and Dr. Josephine Sunga, MD, FPPS, MSc, pediatrician and epidemiologist who champions nutrition as a key ingredient towards children’s optimal development through her research.

Parents and guests of the forum were also able to participate in activities that allowed them to learn practical tips and lessons on how they can nurture an optimal growth mindset within themselves and their families, thereby creating an environment that will nurture their child’s minds and hearts.

Some of the activities were “Reshaping Your Language”, where participants learned that adults have the power over how our language can affect kids. Phrasing statements to curiosity questions can help the kids get a feeling of being included in the decision-making.

In “As Easy As Riding A Bike”, guests were asked to reminisce their first time riding a bike, and its process. Melissa retells the story, but instead of biking, she likens the experience to parenting - the joy of seeing others' kids, the challenge once you've had your own child, the constant toil of new developments, the parental instinct imbibed in you once you've experienced it after a long time.
Nutrition plays a vital role in the development of a child. Without providing proper action, a child’s diet may greatly affect his or her overall growth. However, despite the potential health risks children may face due to the environment or because of genetics, there are ways parents can prevent these from happening and help ensure their children are not restricted to achieve their full potential for the future.

“Nestlé understands that children and their parents face a complex reality, which is why parents should have the tools that will help them pave the way toward their children’s optimal growth and development. Nestlé NANKID provides the optimal nutrition which is essential to growing children’s needs. Coupled with supportive care from parents who allow their children to learn from every opportunity, Nestlé aims to let parents reshape the future, today.” said Ms. Jean Espino, Vice President for Marketing, Nestlé Premium Milks.

Furthering the Optimal Growth Movement

With its aim to promote the Growth Mindset movement, and how this can be applied in school, Nestlé NANKID also worked with SMILE Group (Specializing in Modern Interactive Learning Experiences), an advocate of STEM and STEAM Methodology committed to help Filipino children develop a growth mindset and 21st century skills, to host a learning symposium entitled “Childproof Teaching: Applying the Growth Mindset in School” with Melissa Benaroya, LICSW, held in Miriam College on the 16th of January; where she imparted her knowledge of child development, empathy, and 21st century skills among students and children that can prepare them for life’s hardships. The event was attended by educators from the Philippines’ progressive schools.

Indeed, embracing challenges and opening up possibilities are a child’s greatest teacher, and with an optimal growth mindset, backed by optimal nutrition, parents can help reshape their children’s future so they can become the best version of themselves.
Don’t miss the opportunity to learn how to foster optimal development through optimal nutrition and an optimal growth mindset. Help #ReshapeTheFuture today.  Check out Parentology+ at Trinoma Mall on February 2 and 3. Visit www.facebook.com/NANKIDOPTIPRO for more details.

Scarlet Snow Belo's Swiss Discovery with Nestle NANKID

See the world of science through the eyes of Philippines’ most famous child online.

Exploring new parts of the world is an extraordinary experience.
Whether it’s a weekend trip to a beach, or heading off to another continent,
there’s always something new to discover, experience and learn.

Imagine the excitement that Scarlet Snow Belo, daughter of Dra. Vicky Belo and Dr. Hayden Kho, experienced when she recently went on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to the Nestle Headquarters in Switzerland. The sprawling center with breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps, is where world class products especially made for growing children are developed. Scarlet Snow excitedly explored the various rooms and instruments that were used in different scientific studies and discovered many new things in the headquarters.

Best of all, Scarlet Snow had the opportunity to meet the brilliant science experts and big bosses who work in the headquarters like Alex Keller, the Global Category Head of Nestle Infant and Growing Up Milks, and Marco Turini, Global Head for Scientific Affairs for Nestle. The experts, in turn, were happy to meet their little visitor, as they

They began with the milk formulation to explain why Nestle NANKID is adapted for kids. They showed how all the essential vitamins, minerals and DHA are present in the milk. They also taught her that there is no added sucrose (table sugar) to make sure it is a healthy choice for kids.

Scarlet Snow then learned that protein is one of the most important nutrients for a child’s growth and development, contributing to the building of brain, muscles, and body. The optimized protein found in Nestle NANKID is high quality, low quantity protein that is optimal for weight and development advantage.

But Nestle NANKID doesn’t stop at just providing the right vitamins and optimized proteins. As Scarlet Snow learned, Nestle NANKID also has probiotics! This keeps her digestive system strong and healthy as it fights the bad bacteria in her stomach.

Listening intently, Scarlet Snow discovered that all good things she gets from her favorite milk helps her grow up to be future ready. Childhood is all about learning, growing, and experiencing new things. Every experience contributes to a child’s

mental, emotional and over-all development. Along with proper nutrition, especially one that has optimized protein such as Nestle NANKID, growing children can achieve their fullest potentials. This is the message behind Scarlet Snow’s webisodes, which also emphasizes the role that parents play in reshaping the future of their growing children.
As parents, you possess the power to #ReShapetheFuture of your children. Watch the webisodes to see how Scarlet Snow, with the support of her parents and with NANKID, is well positioned to become the best that she can become in the future.

Joy Philippines #ShareAMomentOfJoy Short Film Series

Manila, Philippines - November 2018
This Christmas, the season of family reunions;
Joy, the Philippines’ leading dishwashing liquid; releases two short films that seek to
encourage more meaningful exchanges between family members by showing how a
chore as mundane as dish washing is perfect for a more intimate form of bonding.
Whereas dinner conversations are great for finding out how everyone is doing,
it may not be as conducive to ironing out sensitive issues as a
quiet chore done by two people helping each other out.
By focusing on this powerful moment and revealing its essential role in family life,
Joy celebrates the unconditional love that Pinoy parents have for their children,
one that will triumph over life’s hardest challenges.

Modern, authentic scenes of parenting love
In the “OFW” short film, the brand highlights how OFW parents struggle
with the effects of distance and time away from their loved ones, imposed
on them by their sacrifice to work overseas.

In the second film entitled “Daughter”, Joy celebrates the love
of a father for his
daughter, regardless of her life choices that challenge conventions.

Joy salutes the sacrifice of OFWs and parents in an
exceptionally realistic and relatable way
Created by Publicis Singapore for P&G, the two films are a departure from Joy’s
usual comedic and light-hearted stories, with a more earnest and true-to-life portrayal
of family struggles. “OFW” pays homage to heroes often honored, but unfortunately
not always understood by their family. It recognizes that for both the OFW and family,
homecoming can be bittersweet, but the small everyday moments spent together can
help to heal wounds and create precious memories.

When dinner time conversations end, real ones begin.
“Through this film, we want to salute the sacrifices done by our modern-day heroes,
while also putting focus on the magic behind appreciating those times where one
lets their guard down and can be very candid and open. While we recognize that
dinner serves as a great way to gather families together, it also rings true for many
families that bonding moments can’t be forced. In many cases, when dinner ends,
real conversations start. What matters is truly embracing every moment spent together,
and choosing to #ShareAMomentOfJoy,” shares Michael Jonathan Biscocho,
Brand Manager, P&G APAC Dish Care.

Noel Orosa, Regional Group Creative Director, Publicis Singapore, adds
“While the dinner table is great for bonding the entire family together, we saw
dishwashing as a safe alternative space for a family to have real one-on-one conversations.
It’s a chore that two family members can do together, which is free from the distractions
of mobile devices and everyday family life. For more than two decades now, Joy has been
a ubiquitous presence on the Filipino family’s dishwashing sink, which is why it is in the
best position to do
this advocacy campaign. This marks a new era for Joy thanks to the brave, progressive
leadership of the Joy Brand Team.”
